We are pleased to announce the 2nd edition of the Annual Michael Taiwo Scholarships for Graduate School Application. Please see below a list of Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs).
What is different this year?
A lot! The following represents some of the changes for the 2020 cycle.
1. More number of awards. You may recall that we started the first edition last year hoping to award two to three scholarships. We ended up awarding seven. This year, the plan is to award at least 10.
2. 3X Bigger prize. We covered only the GRE (or GMAT) exam fees for each winner last year; this year, however, we plan on paying for the entire graduate school application package. This means the TOEFL, GRE/GMAT and School application fees are included in the package. The prize, thus, is at least three times bigger for each winner compared to 2019.
3. Because of COVID-19, we will not use testing as a selection criterion this year. Even though movement of people is fairly unrestricted, we don’t want to put our applicants in potentially unsafe situations. People shouldn’t have to choose between their health and a chance to win the MT Scholarship.
Is anything staying the same?
Yes! The timeline stays the same. The application window is the same as last year. The window will open on October 1st and close on October 15th.
Also, just like last year, applicants that progress to the interview step will be informed on or before October 31st. The final interviews themselves will be conducted early November and award decisions communicated by mid-November.
Where can I apply?
You can click the “Apply Now” button on www.mtscholarships.org during the active application window of October 1st -15th, 2020.
In addition, the link will be posted on social media and other websites. If you are reading this, you probably won’t miss the application.
What can I do to prepare?
Think about why you need the scholarship, why you want to go to graduate school and have copies of your transcripts or exam reports available upon request.
What can I do to increase my chances of winning?
Answer questions honestly. The scholarship committee uses several factors in screening the initial application. The goal is to select a diverse group of so-called MT Scholars who have the best chance of thriving through the rigors of a graduate program. The process is not unlike what graduate school admissions committees use in selecting the composition of an incoming class.
How long will the application take?
The time burden to fill out the scholarship application form is less than 30 minutes
